Do you ever feel out of control around food? Then Read This.

Have you ever found yourself starting to eat, and suddenly it feels like you just can’t stop? You go for one bite… then another… and before you know it, you’ve eaten way more than you planned and maybe even feel guilty afterward.

If that sounds familiar, trust me, you are definitely not alone. I’ve been there too. Sometimes food feels less like nourishment and more like a tug-of-war between your cravings and your willpower.

The truth is, out-of-control eating often isn’t about lack of willpower. It’s usually a sign that something deeper is going on. Whether it’s emotional stress, unmet needs, or just a natural response to restriction or ignoring certain cravings.

Here are a few gentle tips I use to help keep things balanced and kind, without turning eating into a battleground:

1. Include your favorite treats early in the day

For example, I love chocolate. Instead of trying to avoid it all day and then giving in later, I add a bit of chocolate to my breakfast. I love adding dark chocolate chips into my oatmeal or yogurt. This helps satisfy my sweet tooth early on, so I don’t feel restricted or that I “can’t” have what I truly want. All foods fit.

2. Portion snacks on a plate or bowl

Eating directly from the bag or container can lead to mindless munching. Instead, I put my snacks in a plate or bowl so I can see how much I’m eating and enjoy it slowly. It makes a big difference in staying mindful and feeling satisfied without going overboard.

3. Practice kindness and curiosity

Instead of beating yourself up for eating more than planned, pause and ask yourself what you really need. Are you hungry? Thirsty? Stressed? Tired? Sometimes tuning into those feelings helps you make food choices that truly nourish, not just soothe or distract.

Out-of-control eating is a common experience, but it doesn’t have to control you. It’s okay to have moments where food feels tricky. What matters is how you show up for yourself after.

With a little patience, self-compassion, and practical strategies that fit your lifestyle, you can build a healthier, more peaceful relationship with food. And if you want some extra support navigating these challenges, my Feel Good Approach Guide is designed to help you connect with your body’s needs, enjoy your meals, and feel confident around food again, without restriction or guilt.
