What I Do When I Eat Too Much
“I can’t believe I ate so much, I feel so guilty”
Listen, you’re going to overeat sometimes, we’re all human. I’m not going to go into detail as to why or what situations that may happen, because I’m sure you know. So, I’m going to write about what you came for- this is what I do when I feel like I’ve eaten too much.
First, I sit back, unbutton my jeans, or if I can, change into something more comfortable. That physical reminder that my stomach has expanded doesn’t help me, so I just get rid of it.
Second, I take a few deep breaths and remind myself that this feeling is temporary. I trust my body to sort itself out and in the meantime I’m not going to stress. I’m not going to feel guilty, I’m going to enjoy the moment.
Third, I’m going to listen to my body. I’m not going to change my eating habits from this point forward (meaning I’m not going to skip breakfast tomorrow to make up for it). I’m going to eat when I’m hungry, and go on with my life. You don’t need to compensate anything, your body has it covered.
Fourth, when I’m no longer in the moment. Maybe the next day, I’ll think about why that happened, what was the circumstance and ask myself if it is something that happens often. There was a time when this was a regular occurrence, and I didn’t like how I felt. Now, I can say this happens very rarely and more so on a special occasion where that is just how it goes (Christmas, thanksgiving etc and I’m not mad about it!).
Give yourself grace and let yourself move on. If this is something that is causing you stress, or impacting other areas of your life then I would start your journey to look deeper. It’s not enjoyable feeling out of control, and eating this way can be upsetting. Take to some time to learn as to what may be the reason and until then, nourish your mind & body.
You’re okay, promise.
As always, my meal plans are here if you’re ever looking for some kind of plan/direction
