You Don’t Need to Lose Weight to Wear a Swimsuit: You Just Need One That Fits You

Let’s be honest, swimsuit season can bring up a lot. I know the feeling of standing in a fitting room, under those horrible fluorescent lights, staring at my reflection and thinking,

“Maybe I should have started that diet…”

“I wish my body looked different”

“I don’t have the figure for this”

“I’m done eating carbs

You are not alone.

But here’s what I’ve learned, and what I remind my clients (and myself) every single time:
You do not need to change your body to enjoy the beach, the pool, or a day in the sun.
You just need a swimsuit that doesn’t make you feel like your body is the problem.

Think about it, no one blames the jeans when they don’t fit. You try a different pair. You find a new style, a new cut, something that works for you.

Why should swimsuits be any different?

You are allowed to enjoy summer without shrinking yourself first.
Wear the swimsuit. Sit on the towel. Jump in the water. Laugh too hard. Eat the popsicle. Let yourself live.

You do not need a “beach body.” You already have a body, and it belongs on the beach if that’s where you want to be.

For real, some of my best summer memories had nothing to do with how I looked and everything to do with how I felt. The sun on my skin, the sand between my toes, and laughing with people I love.

None of those moments required me to be a smaller version of myself. Just a present one.

A Few Tips for Swimsuit Shopping (From Someone Who Gets It)

  • Try on different styles—your “perfect” suit might surprise you.
  • Don’t be afraid to size up. The tag does not define you.
  • Sit down in it. Move around. How does it feel?
  • Choose comfort over criticism. Always.
  • And if it doesn’t work for you? It’s the suit. Not you.
